Sara_Knapik-Szweda

Sara Knapik-Szweda, MT-C, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Silesia, Faculty of Social Sciences in Poland. She is the vice-president of the Polish Association of Music Therapists and a member of the international organization Music Therapy with Families Hub. She works with premature infants and newborns in two hospitals in Poland and with autistic children and their families in her own Music Therapy Center – Muzka. Her research interests are related to family-centered music therapy, systemic psychotherapy, and resource-oriented music therapy. She is the author of the first Polish book titled “The Significance of Music Therapy Techniques in Supporting the Development of Children with Autism”.


She served as a music therapist and recruiter in the international research project LongStep (2018–2022). She conducted research “Active Music Therapy in Neonatal Care for Preterm Infants: Mothers’ Perspectives in Poland” on the perception of music therapy among mothers of preterm infants (2023–2025). She has completed a qualitative research project entitled “The Significance of Long-Term Music Therapy for Children with Autism: Mothers’ Perspectives,” in collaboration with Professor Grace Thompson from the University of Melbourne.


She is currently conducting research on parent-led pain management and family-centered music therapy during painful medical procedures at the neonatal intensive care unit at the Municipal Hospital Ruda Śląska, in Katowice, Poland.

Sara Knapik-Szweda is also engaged in science communication and public outreach, running the Instagram profile MuzkaMuzykoterapia, where she shares research findings and discusses clinical practice in music therapy.
