PEARL is an acronym for "Pain in Early Life". We are a group of researchers dedicated to better pain management for infants and children.

NISR or GSR, what is the best pain measure?

In order to provide newborn infants with correct pain alleviation there is a need for reliable and easy-to-use tools to assess the pain. We are comparing Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) and Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) with Premature Infant Profile-Revised (PIPP-R). Read more.

New project: Translation, validation and cultural adaption of the Comfort Neo pain Scale

Lene Tandle Lyngstad and Solfrid Steinnes are setting up a new project with the aims to translate the instrument into Norwegian according to Wild`s 10 steps, and consequently assess content validity by focus group interviews, and to culturally adapt The Comfort Neo pain Scale into a Norwegian NICU setting.

  • Next PEARL Lecture Day will be held in Turku, Finland on Tuesday March 28 2017. See invitation here.
  • The PEARL research group workshop will be held on the evening the same day and the next day (March 29), on the boat to Stockholm, Sweden.
  • Those who are interested can then go on to the 20 year anniversary meeting of Swedish Pediatric Pain Society, in Stockholm on March 30-31, with many international well-known speakers.
  • International Forum on Paediatric Pain will be back again, at White Point Beach, Nova Scotia. October 12-15, 2017

PEARL is now a Collaboration Partner with EFCNI

The European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) is the first pan-European organisation to represent the interests of preterm and newborn infants and their families. It gathers together parents and health professionals from different disciplines with the common goal of improving long-term health of preterm and newborn children by ensuring the best possible prevention, treatment, care and support (http://www.efcni.org/).

 

PEARL is now a Collaboration Partner with EFCNI with the goal of improving pain management for preterm and newborn children. Mats Eriksson is also designated as member of the Scientific Advisory Board of EFCNI.
